UCL Group B: Benfica and Lyon Off To Winning Starts

Tuesday play in Match Day #1 in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Group B:

At Lisbon, Portugal:

Luisao (20', that's him celebrating; Associated Press photo) and Oscar Cardozo (68') provided the scoring punch that carried Benfica to a 2-0 home blanking of Hapoel Tel-Aviv.

At Lyon, France:

Michel Bastos was credited with the game's only score at 21 minutes as last year's semifinalists Lyon defeated visiting Schalke 04, who are off to a miserable start in their domestic Bundesliga campaign, 1-0.  Shown above in the Getty Images photo is Schalke's Benedikt Howedes protesting against his red-card ejection from the match.
