Diego Valeri successfully converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute to lift the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 home draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Chris Pontius scored for the guests at 20 minutes.
At Atlanta:
Josef Martinez produced a league record-tying fifth career hat trick (PK-21', 49', PK-83') as Atlanta United defeated the visiting (and nine-man) Philadelphia Union 3-1.
At Columbus, Ohio:
Gyasi Zardes (67'), Alex Crognale (81'), and Federico Higuain (90') each scored once as the Columbus Crew came back from a three-goal deficit to gain a 3-3 home draw with Toronto FC.
Victor Vazquez (PK-17'), Tosaint Ricketts (38'), and Sebastian Giovinco (57') each scored once for the Reds.
At Montreal:
Jeisson Vargas scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute as the Montreal Impact defeated the visiting Houston Dynamo 1-0.
At Foxborough, Massachusetts:
Teal Bunbury scored the winning goal in the 78th minute as the New England Revolution came from behind to upend the visiting New York Red Bulls 2-1.
At New York:
Ismael Tajouri-Shradi scored twice (35', 79') as New York City handed visiting Orlando City their fourth straight defeat 2-0.
At Frisco, Texas:
Roland Lamah scored the game winner in the 51st minute as FC Dallas held off the visiting Los Angeles Football Club 2-1.
At Bridgeview, Illinois:
Aleksandar Katai scored the winning goal in the 49th minute as the Chicago Fire held off the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 2-1.
At Sandy, Utah:
Corey Baird (57') and Luis Silva (90'+1) each scored once as Real Salt Lake blanked the visiting Seattle Sounders 2-0.
