EURO 2012: Czech Republic, Greece Win; Advance To Quarterfinals

Saturday saw the conclusion of Group A play in the European Championship, with two games played in Poland.


At Wroclaw:


Petr Jiracek


Petr Jiracek (that's him celebrating) scored the only goal in the 72nd as the Czech Republic won the Group A title and a berth in the quarterfinal round by defeating Poland 1-0, eliminating the co-host nation from the tournament.


At Warsaw:
Giorgos Karagounis




Giorgos Karagounis (that's him in the white jersey) scored the only goal of the match in first-half stoppage time (45'+2) as Greece stunned Russia 1-0 to advance to the knockout stage.

1. Czech Republic (GP: 3; GD: -1; PTS: 6)
2. Greece (GP: 3; GD: 0; PTS: 4)
3. Russia (GP: 3; GD: +2; PTS: 4)

The Czech Republic and Greece (because of their victory over Russia) advanced to the quarterfinal round.
