AFC Champions League: Qualifying Begins

Two games were played on Wednesday as qualifying for the AFC Champions League commenced.

East Asia Zone, Preliminary Round 1:

At Mandalay, Burma:

After 90 minutes of scoreless regulation, and after each team scored a goal in overtime, Shi Jiayi, Thomas Beattie, Daniel Bennett, Marin Vidosevic, Nicolas Velez, and Andy Ahmad all converted their spot kicks as Warriors FC from Singapore won the penalty-kick shootout 6-5 on the road over Vadanarbon.

At Johor Bahru, Malaysia:

Suppiah Chanturu scored in the winning goal in the 97th minute as Johor Darul Ta'zim defeated visiting Bengaluru of India 2-1 in overtime.  Next Wednesday, the Malaysian club will take on Bangkok Glass FC in preliminary round two action in Pathum Thani, Thailand.
