Emerson Sheik (1'), Felipe (55'), Elias Mendes Trindale (70'), and Fagner Conserva Lemos (79') each produced a goal as Corinthians demolished visiting Once Caldas (Colombia) 4-0 in the opening match of their two-game series, the winner of which will play in Group Two alongside defending champions San Lorenzo (Argentina), Sao Paulo FC (Brazil), and Danubio FC (Uruguay).
At San Cristobal, Venezuela:
Carlos Javier Lopez (12') and Jorge Rojas (19') delivered the scoring as Deportivo Tachira held off visiting Cerro Porteno from Paraguay in the opening contest of their two-match series. The winner of this series will play in Group Eight alongside Sporting Cristal (Peru), Racing Club de Avellaneda (Argentina), and Club Guarani (Paraguay).
