MLS: Philly, Sounders, Timbers Garner Wednesday Wins

Three games were contested in Major League Soccer on Wednesday.

At Chester, Pennsylvania:

Chris Pontius (21'), Vincent Nogueira (57'), and Fabian Herbers (84') each scored a goal as the Philadelphia Union defeated the visiting Columbus Crew 3-2.

At Washington:

Jordan Morris (79') and Joevin Jones (83') each scored once as the Seattle Sounders blanked DC United 2-0 on the road.

At Portland, Oregon:

Liam Ridgewell scored the only goal of the match in the 11th minute as the Portland Timbers, despite playing the entire second half with ten men, defeated the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 1-0.  Goalkeeper Jake Gleeson made three saves to preserve his----and the Timbers'---first shutout of the season.
