Copa Libertadores: Alianza Lima Clinch Berth In Round of 16; Independiente Medellin Pick Up Win; Flamengo and Univeridad de Chile Draw In Rio

Three games were played in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores on Thursday.

Group One:

At Medellin, Colombia:


Independiente Medellin, with Luis Arias scoring the game's lone goal at 55 minutes, defeated visiting  Cerro Porteno 1-0, eliminating the Paraguayan club from the competition.

Group Three:

At Lima, Peru:

Alianza Lima became the first club to clinch a berth in the knockout stage with a 1-0 home win over Club Bolivar.  Jose Fernandez scored the only goal of the match at 5 minutes.

Group Eight:

At Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

In a match postponed from Wednesday because of severe flooding that plagued the Rio de Janeiro area, Walter Montillo (43') and Matias Nicolas Rodriguez (90') provided the scoring that enabled Universidad de Chile to gain a 2-2 road draw with Flamengo.  Michael (68') and Leonardo Moura (82') each tallied once for the hosts.
