Thursday marked the conclusion of the quarterfinal round of UEFA's Europa League competition as the four two-game sets drew to a close.
At Madrid:
A 0-0 deadlock in game two at home against Valencia was good enough for Atletico Madrid, as the Red-and Whites, thanks to their two away goals in last week's series opener, took the two-game set (2-2 on aggregate) due to the away goals rule.
At Liege, Belgium:
Mladen Petric scored twice in the first half (20', 35') as Hamburg defeated Standard Liege 3-1 in game two on the road and won the two-game series 5-2 on aggregate.
At Liverpool, England:
Dirk Kuyt (28'), Lucas (34'), and Fernando Torres (59', 82') provided the goals as Liverpool defeated SL Benfica 4-1 at home in game two, enabling the Reds to win their two-match set 5-3 on aggregate
At Wolfsburg, Germany:
Bobby Zamora provided the only goal of the match (1') as Fulham defeated VfL Wolfsburg 1-0 on the road in game two, enabling the Cottagers to advance to the semifinal round as they won their two-game series 3-1 on aggregate.
Here are the match-ups for the semifinal round:
Hamburg will host Liverpool in game one and Atletico Madrid will do the same with Fulham, both on April 22, with the return matches in Liverpool and London, respectively on April 29.
