With French Cup (Coupe de France) winner Lille having secured a Champions League berth and runners-up PSG having locked up a berth in the Europa League's playoff round, the playoff round berth that's normally reserved for the cup winners was awarded to the fifth-placed club, in this case, Sochaux.  With Champions-League-bound Marseille having won the League Cup (Coupe de la Ligue), the berth in the Europa League's third qualifying round was awarded to sixth-placed Rennes.

AS Monaco, Lens, and Arles-Avignon were relegated to Ligue 2.  They will be replaced by Evian Thonon Gailard FC, AC Ajaccio, and Dijon FCO.
