Igor De Camargo scored the only goal of the match at 90 minutes on Thursday as Borussia Monchengladbach took the opening match of their two-game promotion-relegation playoff series with VfL Bochum of the second division 1-0. The return match is scheduled to take place in Bochum, Germany next Wednesday. The winner of this series would remain in the German Bundesliga next season, as Monchengladbach finished 16th in the top flight while Bochum finished third in the second division and are looking to join already-promoted Hertha Berlin and FC Augsburg in the top flight next season.
