At London:
For the second time in three years on Saturday, Barcelona defeated Manchester United in the final of the UEFA Champions League as Barca took the contest 4-1 for their fourth European club championship, tying them with Ajax Amsterdam and Bayern Munich.
Pedro Rodriguez got the scoring started for Barca in the 27th minute, but Wayne Rooney tied it up for the Red Devils in the 34th minute. The game was deadlocked at 1-1 at halftime.
Lionel Messi, who was named man of the match, scored the game-winning goal in the 54th minute, while David Villa (pictured here) added the insurance tally in the 69th minute.
Barcelona also won European club titles in 1992, 2006, and, against the Red Devils, in 2009.
Only Real Madrid (nine), AC Milan (seven), and Liverpool (five) have won more European club championships than Barca.
Barca coach Pep Guardiola, at age 40, has now won two European club crowns, as many as his Manchester United counterpart, Sir Alex Ferguson.
