The winners will advance to the playoff round and will be joined by Sporting Braga (Portugal), Spartak Moscow (Russia), Udinese (Italy), LOSC Lille Metropole (France), Malaga (Spain), and Borussia Monchengladbach (Germany) for the right to advance to the group stage (for which Chelsea, by winning this past May's Champions League final, have automatically qualified). The losers from the Champions League's third qualifying round will participate in the Europa League's playoff round.
