UEFA Champions League Qualifying: Linfield Win PK Shootout To Advance; F91 Dudelange, Valletta Complete Two-Match Demolitions

Three games were played as the opening qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League concluded on Tuesday.


At Torshavn, Faroe Islands:


After a second successive 0-0 stalemate, followed by thirty minutes of scoreless overtime, Jim Ervin, Gary Browne, Michael Carville, and Brian McCaul all converted their spot kicks as visiting Linfield won their penalty-kick shootout with B36 4-3 to advance. The Blues will take on AEK Limassol in a two-match series in the second qualifying round, which starts next Wednesday at Limassol, Cyprus with the return match the following week at Belfast, Northern Ireland.


At Andorra la Vella, Andorra:


Jhonnattann scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute as Valletta defeated Lusitanos 1-0 on the road in game two, more than enough for the Maltese club to complete their two-match demolition 9-0 on aggregate.  The White Warriors will get their crack at Partizan Belgrade in the second qualifying round.


At Serravalle, San Marino:


Aurelien Joachim scored twice (28', 34') during a four-goal first-half barrage as F91 Dudelange demolished Tre Penne 4-0 on the road in game two to complete their two-match scorching of the club from San Marino 11-0 on aggregate.  The club from Luxembourg will next face FC Red Bull Salzburg in the second qualifying round.
