UEFA Champions League Qualifying: FC Sheriff, HJK, Neftchi Baku, FC Basel, F91 Dudelange Take Series Openers

Eleven games were played on Tuesday as the UEFA Champions League's second qualifying round commenced.


At Yerevan, Armenia:


Serghei Gheorghiev scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute as FC Sheriff took the opening match of their two-game series with Ulisses FC 1-0 on the road.


At Tallinn, Estonia:


Alexander Frei scored both goals (65', PK-87') as FC Basel defeated FC Flora Tallinn 2-0 on the road in game one of their two-match set.


At Helsinki, Finland:


Juho Makela delivered a hat trick (17', 78', 83') and Joel Pohjanpelo added a double (48', 67') as HJK Helsinki crushed visiting KR Reykjavik 7-0 in their series opener, all but placing themselves in the third round of qualifying.


At Baku, Azerbaijan:


Javid Imamverdiyev (22'), Julius Wobay (24'), and Nicolas Canales (63') each scored a goal as Neftchi Baku dominated visiting FC Zestafoni 3-0 in match one of their two-game series.


At Dudelange, Luxembourg:


Aurelien Joachim scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute as F91 Dudelange knocked off visiting FC Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 in game one.


At Liberec, Czech Republic:


Vojtech Hadascok scored the long goal of the match in the 23rd  minute as Slovan Liberec defeated visiting Shakhter Karagandy 1-0 in their series opener.


At Zilina, Czech Republic:


With Jozef Piacek scoring in the 82nd minute, MSK Zilina defeated visiting Ironi Kiryat Shmona 1-0 in the opening contest of their two-game series.


At Oswestry, England:


The opening contest between The New Saints and visiting Helsingborg ended in a 0-0 stalemate.


At Korce, Albania:


Sebino Plaku scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute as Skenderbeu Korce got the better of visiting Debreceni VSC 1-0 in the opening contest of their two-match series.


At Paola, Malta:


Nemanja Tomic (6'), Ivan Ivanov (33'), Stefan Scepovic (42'), and Milos Ostojic (71') each tallied once as Partizan Belgrade dominated Velletta FC 4-1 on the road in the opening match of their two-game set.


At Dublin, Ireland:


The opening contest between Shamrock Rovers and visiting FK Ekranas ended in a 0-0 deadlock.
