Busy Sunday In Serie A

Eight games were played Sunday in Italy's Serie A:

At Cesana:

Five different goal scorers paced Inter Milan to their 17th consecutive Serie A victory, a 5-2 triumph over Catania Calcio played behind closed doors at a neutral site.

At Milan:

Thanks to Massimo Ambrosini's goal at 90 minutes, AC Milan climbed up to fifth place in the Serie A standings with their 1-0 home win over Sampdoria.

At Cagliari:

Lazio climbed into fourth place in the Serie A standings thanks to their 2-0 road win over Cagliari Calcio. Sanchez Emilson Cribari (21') and Tommaso Rocchi (34') provided the scoring for the Eagles.

At Messina:

Edgar Alvarez was the hero of the day as his goal at 90 minutes lifted relegation-threatened Messina to a 1-0 home win over AC Siena.

At Rome:

Thanks to goals from Francesco Tavaro (55'), Philippe Mexes (65'), and Christian Panucci (90'), AS Roma tightened their hold on second place with their 3-0 whitewashing of struggling Reggina at home.

At Florence:

With goals from Adrian Mutu (27') and Luca Toni (75'), Fiorentina kept their hopes of playing in European competition alive with their 2-0 home win over Empoli, which knocked the guests out of a Champions League qualifying berth.

At Udine:

Relegation zone residents Parma and hosts Udinese battled to an entertaining 3-3 deadlock. The hosts' Antonio di Natale scored twice (42', PK-68') while the visitors' Giuseppe Rossi's succesful penalty kick at 86 minutes helped give Parma a share of the spoils.

At Leghorn:

Hosts Livorno and basment-residing Ascoli battled to a 0-0 stalemate.
