CONCACAF Gold Cup: Team USA To Get Another Shot At Panama In Semis

At Washington:

The quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup concluded with two games played on Sunday.

In the opener, Jermaine Jones (49') and Clint Dempsey (80') provided the scoring that carried the United States to a 2-0 win over Jamaica.

In the nightcap, Luis Tejada's 89th-minute equalizer forced the match to go into what turned out to be 30 scoreless minutes of overtime.  In the ensuing penalty-kick shootout, Nelson Barahona, Luis Renteria, Anibal Godoy, Amilcar Henriquez Espinoza, and, yes, Luis Tejeda, all converted their spot kicks as Panama defeated El Salvador 5-4 in the shootout.

On Wednesday, the United States will take another crack at Panama (the team that handed the Americans their first-ever CONCACAF Gold Cup group-stage defeat) at Houston's Reliant Stadium in the semifinal round.  The winner will take on the Mexico-Honduras winner in the final to be played next Saturday at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
