MLS: Quakes, RSL, Hoops, Goats Pick Up Wins

Eight games made up the Saturday Major League Soccer schedule.


At Toronto:


Sporting Kansas City wrapped up their season-opening ten-game road trip with a 0-0 deadlock against Toronto FC.  The club, formerly known as the Kansas City Wizards, will play their first home game this coming Thursday against the Chicago Fire at their new Livestrong Stadium facility in Kansas City, Kansas.


At Harrison, New Jersey:


Rich Balchan's goal at the death (90') lifted the Columbus Crew to a 1-1 road draw with the New York Red Bulls.  Mehdi Ballouchy scored for the Red Bulls at 9 minutes.


At Bridgeview, Illinois:


The Chicago Fire, in Frank Klopas' first game as head coach, were held to a 0-0 stalemate by the visiting Seattle Sounders.  Kasey Keller got his fourth shutout of the season for the Sounders while his Chicago counterpart Sean Johnson picked up shutout number one.


At Frisco, Texas:


Martin Chavez scored in the 69th minute while veteran goalkeeper Kevin Hartman racked up his 100th career MLS shutout as FC Dallas blanked the visiting New England Revolution 1-0.


At Commerce City, Colorado:


The Colorado Rapids and Philadelphia Union battled to a 1-1 draw.  For the home standing Rapids, the game picked up their sixth consecutive draw, tying an MLS record.  Conor Casey's penalty kick at 63 minutes gave Colorado a short-lived one-goal lead, before Philly's Danny Mwanga equalized at 66 minutes.


At Sandy, Utah:


Jean-Michel Alexandre (32') and Fabian Espindola (79') each tallied once as Real Salt Lake began a new home unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps, stretching the guests' 13-match winless streak.


At Santa Clara, California:


Steven Lenhart (69') and Simon Dawkins (90') each scored a second-half goal as the San Jose Earthquakes blanked the visiting Houston Dynamo 2-0.


At Carson, California:


Marcos Mondaini scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute as Chivas USA defeated the visiting Portland Timbers 1-0.
