AC Milan, Inter Milan, and Napoli automatically qualified for the group stage of the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League, while Udinese (who pipped Lazio for fourth place because due to better goal difference) qualified for the Champions League's playoff round.

Lazio and  AS Roma (the latter as the sixth-placed club, thanks to Inter's Coppa Italia triumph) will enter the Europa League's playoff round while Palermo, who lost the Coppa Italia final to Inter, will enter the Europa League in the third qualifying round.

Sampdoria, Brescia, and AS Bari were relegated to Serie B.  AC Siena and Atalanta won automatic promotion to the top flight, while the fourth-through-seventh-placed clubs in Serie B----Novara Calcio, AS Varese 1910, Calcio Padova, and Reggina----will be taking part in the promotion playoffs during June to see who would be the third club promoted to Serie A for next season.
