Copa Libertadores: Santos vs. Penarol For Title

At Buenos Aires:


Despite dropping game two of their two-game Copa Libertadores semifinal series 2-1 on the road with Velez Sarsfield, with each team having garnered three points, Penarol won the series on the away goals rule.  Matias Mier scored at 33 points for the Uruguayan club.


Penarol will take on Santos in the Copa Libertadores two-match final, with the opening game taking place on June 15 at Montevideo, Uruguay and the return match to be held on June 22 at Sao Paulo, Brazil


Penarol won the competition five times (the last time in 1987) while Santos last won the competition in 1963 (their second).


The winner will play in this coming December's FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in Japan.
