CONCACAF Champions League: Sounders Drop Series Opener On Road

The preliminary round of the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League commenced with the opening games of two two-game series on Tuesday.

At Panama City, Panama:

Roberto Brown's penalty kick at 28 minutes provided all the scoring as San Francisco FC took the opening match of their two-game series with the Seattle Sounders 1-0 at home.

At San Jose, Costa Rica:

A second-half natural hat trick from Jorge Barbosa (70', 77', 89') helped Club Sport Herediano destroy visiting Alpha United FC 8-0 in the opening contest of their two-match set, with the Costa Rican club all but assured of a spot in the group stage.
