MLS: Timbers End Winless Streak With First-Ever MLS Road Win; Sounders Top Rapids In Wild One In Seattle; Four-Draw Saturday

Six of an originally-scheduled seven games took place in Major League Soccer on Saturday.  The Vancouver Whitecaps' scheduled home match with Real Salt Lake was postponed due to an unplayable pitch at Empire Field.


At Seattle:


Alvaro Fernandez (6'), Roger Levesque (47'), Fredy Montero (82'), and Mauro Rosales (83') each delivered a goal as the Seattle Sounders held off the visiting Colorado Rapids 4-3.


At Columbus, Ohio:


The Columbus Crew, with Will Hesmer making eight saves, and the visiting San Jose Earthquakes, with Jon Busch coming up with seven himself, battled to a 0-0 stalemate.


At Bridgeview, Illinois:


Jack Jewsbury's penalty kick at 25 minutes provided all the scoring as the Portland Timbers snapped their seven-match winless streak with their first-ever MLS road victory, 1-0 over the Chicago Fire.


At Houston:


Aurelien Collin's late equalizer (89') lifted Sporting Kansas City to a 1-1 road deadlock with the Houston Dynamo (Brad Davis scoring at 8 minutes).


At Frisco, Texas:


Goalkeeper Bill Hamid made three saves to preserve a road point for DC United as they held FC Dallas to a 0-0 stalemate.


At Carson, California:


The New York Red Bulls and home standing Chivas USA battled to a 0-0 draw.  Frank Rost's MLS debut for the Red Bulls netted a shutout, while his Goats' counterpart Dan Kennedy made three saves for his first clean sheet of the season.
