Wednesday Action In EURO 2008

Here is a rundown of Wednesday action in qualifying for the 2008 European Championships:

GROUP A:

At Helsinki, Finland:

Finland, thanks to Mika Nurmela's 10th-minute goal, defeated visiting Armenia 1-0 to sit atop the Group A standings.

At Coimbra, Portugal:

Simao Simbrosa scored in each half as homestanding Portugal whitewashed Kazakhstan 3-0.

At Brussels:

Poland moved into second place in Group A qualifying after their 1-0 road win against Belgium, Radoslaw Matusiak scoring in the 18th minute.


GROUP D:

At Dublin:

Robbie Keane knocked in a hat trick as Ireland punched out struggling and visiting San Marino 5-0.

At Nicosia, Cyprus:

Yiannis Okkas scored the tying goal in the 43rd minute to lift Cyprus to a 1-1 draw with visiting Germany.


GROUP E:

At Tel-Aviv, Israel:

Eduardo da Silva registered a hat trick to lift Croatia to a 4-3 road win over Israel and move to the top of the Group E standings.

At Skopje, Macedonia:

Goals from Vladimir Bystrov (18') and Andrei Arshavin (32') lifted visiting Russia to a 2-0 win over Macedonia.
