UCLQR2: Lech Poznan, Birkirkira, Sparta Prague, Red Bull Salzburg Among Game One Winners As Second Qualifying Round Commences

The second qualifying round for next season's UEFA Champions League began on Tuesday as the opening games of eleven of the seventeen two-game series were played.

At Baku, Azerbaijan:

Artur Wichniarek scored the only goal of the match at 47 minutes as Lech Poznan took game one on the road, 1-0, over Inter Baku.

At Ta'Qali, Malta:

Nikola Vukanac's first-minute goal held up as Birkirkara FC took game one of their two-match set 1-0 at home over MSK Zilina.


At Liepaja, Latvia:

Bony Wilfried scored twice (51', 58') as Sparta Prague delivered a 3-0 road beatdown on Liepajas Metalurgs in their series opener.


At Tallinn, Estonia:


Laszlo Rezes delivered the equalizer at 90 minutes as Debrecen VSC gained a 1-1 road draw in game one with FC Levadia Tallinn. Tarmo Neemelo scored for the hosts at 59 minutes.


At Salzburg, Austria:


Five different goal scorers----Gonzalo Zarate (21'), Jakob Jantscher (43'), Andreas Ulmer (46'), Roman Wallner (64'), and Stefan Hierlander (82')----each tallied once as Red Bull Salzurg delivered a big-time 5-0 hurt on visiting HB Torshavn in game one of their two-game series.


At Solna, Sweden:

Pontus Engblom scored the only goal of the match at 57 minutes as AIK took the opening match with Jeunesse Esch 1-0 at home.

At Lovech, Bulgaria:


Ivelin Popov's goal at 8 minutes held up as PFC Litex Lovech took the opening match at home 1-0 over FK Rudar Pljevlja.


At Nicosia, Cyprus:


Michalis Konstantinou scored twice (PK-7', 62') as Omonia overran visiting FK Renova 3-0 in game one.


At Tel Aviv, Israel:


Maaran Lala's first-half hat trick (10', 31', 38') helped guide Hapoel Tel Aviv to a 5-0 home brass knuckling of FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo in game one.


At Zagreb, Croatia:


Mario Mandzukic scored twice (30', 63') as Dinamo Zagreb mauled visiting FC Koper 5-1 in game one of their two-match series.


At Dublin, Ireland:

Killian Brennan scored the only goal of the match at 66 minutes as Bohemian FC defeated The New Saints in game one, 1-0 at home.
