FIFA Women's World Cup: Brazil, France Grab Group-Stage Openers; Ticos and Spain Draw; Colombia and Mexico Draw, Too

The first cycle of group-stage games in the FIFA Women's World Cup concluded with four games played in Canada on Tuesday.

GROUP E:

Both games were contested at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

In the opener, Raquel Rodriguez Cadeno's equalizer in the 14th minute lifted Costa Rica to a 1-1 draw with Spain, whose tally came in the 13th minute from Victoria Losada.

In the nightcap, Formiga (33') and Marta (PK-53') each scored a goal as Brazil blanked South Korea 2-0.

Group E Standings:

1. Brazil (GP: 1; GD: +2; PTS: 3)
2. Costa Rica (GP: 1; GD: 0; PTS: 1)
    Spain (GP: 1; GD: 0; PTS: 1)
4. South Korea (GP: 1; GD: -2; PTS: 0)



GROUP F:

Both games were contested at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick.

In the opener, Eugenie Le Sommer scored the only goal of France's 1-0 victory over England.

In the nightcap, Daniela Montoya's equalizer in the 82nd minute carried Colombia to a 1-1 draw with Mexico.  Veronica Perez scored for the Mexicans in the 36th minute.
