FIFA Women's World Cup: Goose Eggs For Team USA And Sweden; Japan Advances to Knockout Stage

Four games were played in FIFA Women's World Cup group-stage action on Friday.
GROUP C:

Both games were contested at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In the opener, Fabienne Humm (47', 49', 52') and Ramona Bachmann (PK'-60', 61', 81') each delivered a hat trick while Angie Ponce scored two own goals (24', 71') as Switzerland destroyed Ecuador 10-1.

In the nightcap, Aya Sameshina (6') and Yuika Sugasawa (17') each scored a goal as Japan clinched a berth in the knockout stage with a 2-1 victory over Cameroon.


Group C Standings:

GROUP D:

Both games were contested at Winnipeg Stadium (Investors' Group Field) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In the opener, Kyah Simon scored twice (29', 86') as Australia blanked Nigeria 2-0.

In a much anticipated nightcap, the United States and Sweden battled to a 0-0 deadlock as former US coach Pia Sundhage coached the Swedish team.
