FIFA Women's World Cup: Brazil Advance To Knockout Stage; England, Colombia Also Post Saturday Wins; Costa Rica and South Korea Draw

Four games were played on Saturday as the second cycle of group-stage matches in the FIFA Women's World Cup concluded in Canada.

GROUP E:

Both games were played at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

In the opener, Andressa Alves da Silva scored the only goal in the 44th minute as Brazil not only clinched a berth in the knockout round, but also won the Group E title with a 1-0 victory over Spain.

In the nightcap, South Korea and Costa Rica battled to a 2-2 draw. So-Yeon Ji (PK-21) and Ga-Eul Jeon (25') each scored a goal for the Taegeuk Ladies while Daphne Melissa Herrera Monge (17') and Karla Villalobos (89') each tallied once for the Costa Ricans ("Lady Ticos," anyone?).

Group E Standings:

1. y-Brazil (GP: 2; GD: +3; PTS: 6)
2.    Costa Rica (GP: 2; GD: 0; PTS: 2)
3.    Spain (GP: 2; GD: -1; PTS: 1)
4.    South Korea (GP: 2; GD: -2; PTS: 1)

GROUP F:

Both games were played at Moncton Stadium in Moncton, New Brunswick.

In the opener, Lady Andrade (19') and Catalina Usme (90'+3) each scored a goal as Colombia blanked France 2-0.

In the nightcap, Karen Carney scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute as England held off Mexico 2-1.

Group F Standings:
