Copa Libertadores:

Three games were played on Thursday as the Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores came to a conclusion.


At Asuncion, Paraguay:


After a second scoreless draw between Cerro Porteno and visiting Estudiantes (leaving the clubs deadlocked at two point apiece) forced a penalty-kick shootout (no overtime), Julio dos Santos, Jonathan Fabbro, Roberto Nanni, Luis Ceceres, and Javier Villarreal all converted their spot kicks and the Paraguayan club won the shootout 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinal round.


At Barranquilla, Colombia:


Jackson Martinez scored twice (39', 63') while Edgar Andrade scored the series-winning goal at 86 minutes as Jaguares gained a 3-3 road draw in game two of their two-match series with Junior Barranquilla and, with each team garnering two points and with the aggregate score at 4-4, won the series on away goals.


At Quito, Ecuador:


Ricardo Alvarez (55') and Ivan Bella (80') each scored once in the second half as Velez Sarsfield took game two of their two-game series with LDU Quito 2-0 on the road, enabling the Argentinian club to take all six points for this series and advance to the quarterfinals.

The opening contests of these respective quarterfinal series are scheduled to take place sometime between Tuesday and Thursday of next week with the return contests taking place between Tuesday and Thursday of the week after next.
