Palermo Stumble Lifts Messina Out Of Drop Zone

Seven Sunday matches were conducted in Italy's Serie A:

At Messina:

Christian Rigano's double (45', 65') provided all the scoring as Messina climbed out of the relegation zone by knocking off visiting Palermo 2-0.

At Cagliari:

Cagliari ended their three game losing streak thanks to their 2-0 home win over Atalanta. David Suazo (4') and Simone Pepe (71') provided the goals for the Sardinians.

At Rimini:

In another "home" contest played at a neutral site behind closed doors, Catania Calcio ended their three-game losing skid with a 1-1 draw with AC Siena. Giorgio Corona scored at 56 minutes to give the Elephants the lead, only to see the guests' Francesco Cozza equalize at 73 minutes.

At Parma:

Giuseppe Rossi's successful penalty kick in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time enabled Parma to gain a 1-1 home draw with now-fellow relegation zone residents Reggina.

At Florence:

Luca Toni (31', 34') and Alessandro Gambieri (74', 83') each scored twice to lead Fiorentina to a 5-1 thumping of visiting Torino.

At Udine:

Nicola Pozzi's 18th-minute goal lifted visiting Empoli to a 1-0 win over Udine to climb up to fifth place in Serie A.

At Rome:

Tommaso Rocchi's goal (23') was the lone tally in Lazio's 1-0 home win over Sampdoria, as the hosts now reside in fourth place in the Serie A standings.
