3-1 Home Wins For German Clubs As UEFA Cup Quarterfinals Begin

The quarterfinal round of the UEFA Cup commenced Thursday.

At Donetsk, Ukraine:

Goals from Tomas Hubschman (39') and Jadson (65') paced Shakhtar Donetsk to a 2-0 series-opening home win over Marseille.

At Paris:

Dynamo Kiev held Paris Saint-Germain to a 0-0 draw on the road in game one of the two clubs' two-match set.

At Hamburg, Germany:

Piotr Trochowski had a hand in all three Hamburg goals, scoring one himself (PK-63') and assisting the other two scores----Joris Mathijsen (9') and Paolo Guerrero (79')---as HSV overtook visiting Manchester City 3-1 in game one.

At Bremen, Germany:

Diego's double (34', 67') paced Werder Bremen to a 3-1 series-opening home win over Udinese.
