DCU Blank Hoops To Begin US Open Title Defense

At Washington:

DC United, with goals from Fred (21') and Brandon Barklage (66'), began defense of their Lamar Hunt US Open Cup championship by blanking visiting FC Dallas 2-0 at home on Wednesday.

This game was in the qualification semifinals for the 2009 edition of the US Open Cup involving eight US-based Major League Soccer clubs.

Next for United in this tournament is a qualification final match against the winner of next Wednesday's New York Red Bulls-San Jose Earthquakes contest at Santa Clara, California.

Back on April 7, the Colorado Rapids, after 120 scoreless minutes, won the penalty-kick shootout 4-2 over the Los Angeles Galaxy at Carson, California. The Rapids will next play the winner of next Wednesday's tilt in Tukwila, Washington between Real Salt Lake and Seattle Sounders FC.
