Action in the semifinal round of the CONCACAF Champions League resumed Tuesday.
At Mexico City:
Successful penalty kicks from Pablo Zeballos, Edgar Andrade, Gerardo Torrado, and Javier Orozco enabled Cruz Azul to win the penalty-kick shootout with the visiting Puerto Rico Islanders 4-2. This after the Mexican club won the second match of their two-match set 2-0 in regulation time (with goals from Pablo Zeballos at 44 minutes and Javier Orozco at 84 minutes) to deadlock the series 2-2 on aggregate. In overtime, the Islanders' Sandy Gbandi scored in the 92nd minute, only to see Cruz Azul's Cesar Villaluz equalize at 99 minutes, setting up the shootout, won by the Mexican club.
This sets up an all-Mexican Champions League final, with Cruz Azul set to face the winner of the Atlante-Santos Laguna series, with Santos leading 2-1 on aggregate. The Iron Colts will host the second match at Cancun on Wednesday night.
