AFC Champions League: South Korean Clubs To Make Up Half Of Quarterfinal Field

The first knockout round of the AFC Champions League concluded Wednesday with four games.

WEST ASIA:

At Isfahan, Iran:

Igor scored the only goal of the match at  85 minutes as FC Zob Ahan defeated visiting Mes Kerman FC 1-0 in a battle of Iranian clubs for a spot in the quarterfinal round.

At Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:

Al-Hilal dominated visiting FC Bunyodkor 3-0.  The Blue Wave received goals from Majed Al-Marshedi (9'), Christian Wilhelmsson (57'), and Thiago Neves (61').

EAST ASIA:

At Kashima, Japan:


Joao Soares de Mota Neto bagged the game's lone tally at 29 minutes as Pohang Steelers continued their title defense with a 1-0 road win over Kashima Antlers.


At Adelaide, Australia:


Dong-Gook Lee scored the game winner in overtime (116') as Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors nudged out Adelaide United 3-2 on the road.


This has been quite a Champions League campaign for the four South Korean clubs.  All four of them advanced from the group stage into the Round of 16, now all four of them will be in the quarterfinal round.
