FC Nuremberg took game one of their two-match promotion/relegation playoff with second-division club FC Augsburg 1-0 on Thursday. Christian Eigler scored the only goal of the match at 84 minutes. The hosts are 90 minutes away from assuring themselves of another season in the Bundesliga. The two clubs will duke it out again in the return match at Augsburg on Sunday. FC Kaiserslautern and St. Pauli have already won automatic promotion to the top flight of German soccer while Hertha Berlin and VfL Bochum had already been relegated to 2. Bundesliga.
