AFC Champions League: Pohang Steelers, Guangzhou Evergrande, Al-Ain Grab Series Openers On Road; Al-Ittihad Took Series Opener At Home

The knockout stage of the AFC Champions League commenced on Tuesday with four games.

At Jeonju, South Korea:

Son Joon-ho (58') and Go Moo-yul (74') provided the scoring as Pohang Steelers knocked off Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors 2-1 on the road in the opening match of a two-game all-South Korean Round-of-16 series.

At Osaka, Japan:

Muriqui (22', 84') and Elkeson (PK-34', 37') each scored twice as defending champs Guangzhou Evergrande demolished Cerezo Osaka 5-1 on the road in the opening contest of their two-game series.

At Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates:

Asamoah Gyan (11') and Omar Abdulrahman (15') each scored a goal four minutes apart in the first quarter-hour as Al-Ain defeated fellow Emirates club Al-Jazira 2-1 on the road in the opening match of their two-game series.

At Mecca, Saudi Arabia:

Mokhtar Fallatah scored the only goal of the match in the 77th minute as Al-Ittihad picked up the lone Tuesday home victory, 1-0 in match one against fellow Saudi club Al-Shabab.
