Chris Wondolowski's successful penalty kick in the 59th minute provided all the scoring as the San Jose Earthquakes defeated visiting Sporting Kansas City 1-0.
At Harrison, New Jersey:
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice (69', 75') as the New York Red Bulls defeated visiting Orlando City 3-2.
