Copa Libertadores: LDU Quito Takes Series Opener; Two Draws As Knockout Stage Opens

The Copa Libertadores' Round of 16 opened on Tuesday with three games.

At Buenos Aires:

River Plate and visiting Cruzeio battled to a series-opening 0-0 stalemate.

At Mendoza, Argentina:

Felipe Melo (34') and Miguel Borja (59') each scored once as Palmeiras came back from two goals down to gain a series-opening 2-2 road draw with Godoy Cruz.

Santiago Garcia scored both of the hosts' goals in the 6th and 29th minutes.

At Quito, Ecuador:

Jose Ayovi scored twice (12', 73') as LDU Quito held off visiting Club Olimpia 3-1 in game one of their two-match series.
