US Open Cup: Lions, Five Stripes, Loons, Timbers Advance To Semifinals; No Non-MLS Clubs Remain

The quarterfinal round of the US Open Cup tournament took place on Wednesday with four games.

At Orlando, Florida:

After a 1-1 regulation draw, which was followed by 30 overtime minutes which produced nary a goal, Tesho Akindele, Kyle Smith, Will Johnson, Dillon Powers, and Oriol Rosell each converted a spot kick as Orlando City defeated visiting New York City 5-4 in an all-Major League Soccer six-round penalty-kick shootout.

At Kennesaw, Georgia:

Gonzalo Martinez (52') and Josef Martinez (PK-90'+5) each scored once as Atlanta United blanked visiting Saint Louis of the USL Championship 2-0.

At St. Paul, Minnesota:

Angelo Rodriguez produced a hat trick (10', 18', 45') as Minnesota United crushed visiting New Mexico United (USL Championship) 2-0.

At Los Angeles:

Jeremy Ebobisse scored the only goal of the match in the 84th minute as the Portland Timbers knocked off the Los Angeles Football Club 1-0 on the road in the only Wednesday victory for a visiting club.
