FC Groningen erased a two-goal second-half deficit and gained a 2-2 home draw with Ajax Amsterdam on Sunday in the Dutch Eredivisie season opener for both clubs. Mounir El Hamdaoui scored both goals for Ajax (50', 61'), but Tim Matavz (72') and Nicklas Pedersen (86') scored late to salvage a share of the points for the hosts.
