The preliminary round of the CONCACAF Champions League concluded with two games played on Thursday.
At Tunapuna, Trinidad:
Kerry Baptiste (8'), Carlyle Mitchell (39'), Micah Lewis (45'), and Andre Toussaint (76') each scored a goal as Joe Public FC defeated visiting Brujas FC of Costa Rica 4-2 in game two of their two-game series and won the series 6-4 on aggregate.
At Guatemala City:
Alejandro de la Cruz Bentos provided both goals (41', 77') as FAS FC from El Salvador defeated Club Xelaju MC 2-0 on the road in game two and took their two-match series 3-1 on aggregate.
NOTE: Joe Public will be joining the Columbus Crew, CSD Municipal (Guatemala), and Mexico's Santos Laguna in Group B while FAS will play in Group D alongside CD Olimpia (Honduras), the Puerto Rico Islanders (who play in the USSF D2 Pro League), and Deportivo Toluca FC of Mexico. Group stage play will get underway on Tuesday, August 17. There are four groups with four teams each, each team playing six games, two (one at home, one on the road) against each of the other three teams in each team's group, with the top two finishing teams in each group advancing to the quarterfinal round, which starts off the knockout stage.
