The third qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League concluded with 13 games played on Wednesday.
At Helsinki, Finland:
Cleo scored twice (9', 90'+2) as Partizan Belgrade defeated HJK Helsinki 2-1 on the road in game two and won their two-match series 5-1 on aggregate.
At Saint Petersburg, Russia:
Danny scored the only goal of both the match and the entire two-game series at 33 minutes as Zenit Saint Petersburg defeated Unirea Urziceni 1-0 in game two at home and took the two-match set on aggregate by that same score.
At Copenhagen, Denmark:
Thanks to goals from Cesar Santin (2'), William Kvist (27'), and Dame N'Doye (59'), FC Copenhagen, after last week's scoreless draw in Belarus, defeated visiting FC BATE Borisov 3-2 in game two and took the two-game series 3-2 on aggregate.
At Zilina, Slovakia:
Emil Rilke (52'), Tomas Ovarec (70'), and Momodou Ceesay (84') each tallied once in the second half as MSK Zilina defeated visiting PFC Litex Lovech 3-1 in game two and won their two-match series 4-2 on aggregate.
At Basel, Switzerland:
FC Basel defeated visiting Debreceni VSC 3-1 in game two and won their two-game series 5-1 on aggregate. Cagdas Atan (26'), Scott Chipperfield (59'), and Xherdan Shaqiri (64') each scored a goal for the Swiss champions.
At Poznan, Poland:
Jiri Kladrubsky's penalty kick at 50 minutes provided all the scoring as Sparta Prague
salted away a second successive 1-0 win over Lech Poznan, this time on the road in game two, to take out the Polish club for the series 2-0 on aggregate.
At Zagreb, Croatia:
After game two ended a 1-1 deadlock between Dinamo Zagreb (Sammir making a successful penalty kick at 55 minutes) and visiting FC Sheriff
(Vladimir Volkov scoring at 18 minutes), and with the two-match series stalemated at 2-2 on aggregate, the series went into---and through---30 scoreless minutes of overtime. The series was decided in the penalty kick shootout, where Artiom Haceaturov converted the shootout---and series----winning kick in the ninth round as the visiting Moldovan club took the shootout 6-5 to advance to the playoff round.
At Istanbul, Turkey:
Henri Bienvenu scored the only goal of the game at 40 minutes as BSC Young Boys defeated Fenerbahce 1-0 on the road in game two and won their two-game set 3-2 on aggregate.
At Wals-Siezenheim, Austria:
Franz Schiemer scored twice (37', 40') as Red Bull Salzburg overpowered visiting AC Omonia 4-1 in game two and took their two-match series 5-2 on aggregate.
At Ghent, Belgium:
Denys Harmash (32'), Artem Milevskiy (55'), and Oleh Husyev (90') each scored once as Dynamo Kiev defeated KAA Gent 3-1 on the road in game two and won their two-game series 6-1 on aggregate.
At Trondheim, Norway:
Rosenborg defeated visiting AIK 3-0 in game two and won their two-match set with their Swedish opponents 4-0 on aggregate. The Troll Kids were powered by second-half goals from Rade Prica (55'), Vadim Demidov (64'), and Mikael Lustig (76').
At Thessaloniki, Greece:
Thanks to a 3-3 road deadlock in game two against PAOK FC, Ajax Amsterdam, with the two-match series at 4-4 on aggregate, advanced to the playoff round because of the away goals rule. Luis Suarez (48'), Siem de Jong (50'), and Rasmus Lindgren (55') each scored a goal during an eight-minute stretch in the second half.
At Glasgow, Scotland:
Despite dropping a 2-1 decision in game two on the road, SC Braga won their two-game series with Celtic 4-2 on aggregate. Paulo Cesar scored for the Archbishops, who will be playing in the playoff round for a spot in the group stage.
The drawing for the playoff round will take place on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland. The teams that lost their two-match series on Tuesday and Wednesday this week will play in the playoff round for berths in the Europa League's group stage.
