The preliminary round of the 2009-2010 CONCACAF Champions League got under way on Tuesday with two games.
At Washington:
Jaime Moreno's successful penalty kick at 42 minutes enabled DC United to salvage a 1-1 home deadlock in the opening match of their two-game series with Club Deportivo Luis Angel Firpo from El Salvador. The visitors' goal came from Mario Benitez at 26 minutes.
At Pachuca, Mexico:
Juan Carlos Cacho (41'), Gabriel Caballero (56'), and Christian Gimenez (75') each scored a goal as Pachuca overpowered visiting Deportivo Jalapa 3-0 in the series opener for both clubs.
