EL TRI CLUB TEAM USA WITH SECOND HALF BLITZKRIEG TO CAPTURE CONCACAF GOLD CUP

At East Rutherford, New Jersey:

In front of more than 79,000 fans, five different goal scorers---Gerardo Torrado (PK-54'), Giovani Dos Santos (61'), Carlos Vela (66'), Jose Castro (78'), and Guillermo Franco (89')---each tallied once during a second-half offensive barrage that saw Mexico smash open a contest that had been scoreless at halftime and deliver a brassknuckling to the defending champions United States, 5-0, on Sunday to win their fifth CONCACAF Gold Cup championship. The loss ended the Americans' 58-match home unbeaten streak against CONCACAF competition, as well as an 11-match home unbeaten run against El Tri.

The Americans, who did not field any of their starters from last month's FIFA Confederations Cup final in South Africa, should have much closer to a full squad for their World Cup qualifier in Mexico City on August 12.
