Dane Richards (47') and Ernst Oebster (59') provided the goalpower that enabled the New York Red Bulls to gain a 2-2 road draw in game one of their two-match set with W Connection. The hosts got goals from Jonathan Fana (40') and Hughtun Hector (71').
At Heredia, Costa Rica:
A hat trick from Javier Antonio Orozco Penuelas (49', 57', 74') helped Cruz Azul smother Herediano 6-2 on the road in the series opener for both clubs.
At Tegucigalpa, Honduras:
Second-half tallies from Jocimar Nascimento (PK-48') and Everaldo Ferreira (56') lifted Olimpia to a come-from-behind game-one 2-1 home win over Arabe Unido.
