Overtime Win For Team USA Sets Up Semifinal Encounter With Honduras

The quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup commenced Saturday with a doubleheader at Philadelphia.


In the opener, Walter Martinez scored the game's only goal on his successful penalty kick at 36 minutes as Honduras defeated Canada 1-0.

In the nightcap, Kyle Beckerman equalized at 49 minutes, and Kenny Cooper scored the game winner with his successful overtime penalty kick (105'+1) as the United States came from behind to defeat Panama 2-1.

The US and Honduras will play in a semifinal match this coming Thursday at Chicago's Soldier Field.

The quarterfinals will conclude Sunday at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington, Texas. Guadeloupe will battle Costa Rica in the opener, then Mexico takes on Haiti in the nightcap, with the winners advancing to play in Thursday's other semifinal match in Chicago.
