Mexico Tops Guadeloupe To Win Group C; Both Teams Joined By Panama In Quarterfinals

Group stage play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup concluded Sunday with a Group C doubleheader in Glendale, Arizona.

In the opener, Luis Tejada doubled (76', 88') as Panama blasted Nicaragua 4-0 to claim a berth in the quarterfinal round. The Panamanians' win eliminated Jamaica from the tournament.

In the nightcap, Goals from Gerardo Torrado (42') and Miguel Sabah (85') paced Mexico to a 2-0 blanking of Guadeloupe to win Group C. Both teams advanced to the quarterfinal round.

FINAL GROUP C STANDINGS:

1. Mexico (GP: 3; GD: +4; PTS: 7)
2. Guadeloupe (GP: 3; GD: +1; PTS: 6)
3. Panama (GP: 3; GD: +3; PTS: 4)
4. Nicaragua (GP: 3; GD: -9; PTS: 0)

Mexico, Guadeloupe, and Panama advanced to the quarterfinal round.
