Seven More Clubs Reach Third Qualifying Round

The second qualifying round of the 2009-2010 UEFA Champions League concluded Wednesday as seven more clubs reach the third qualifying round.

At Aktobe, Kazakhstan:

Samat Smakov (20') and Murat Tleshev (67') provided the goals to guide FK Aktobe to a 2-0 home win over FH Hafnarfjordur in game two and easily win their two-match set 6-0 on aggregate.

At Tallinn, Estonia:

Vladislav Ivanov provided the lone tally of the match at 89 minutes as FC Levadia Tallinn won game two at home 1-0 over Wisla Krakow and eliminate their Polish rivals as they took their two-game set 2-1 on aggegrate.

At Dudelange, Luxembourg:

Goals from Vitalijs Astafjevs (27'), Andrejs Butriks (57'), and Pavels Mihadjuks (67') paced FK Ventspils to a 3-1 road win over F91 Dudelange in game two, which clinched the series for the Latvian club 6-1 on aggregate and a third-qualifying-round encounter with FC BATE Borisov.

At Kalmar, Sweden:

Despite dropping a 3-1 road verdict in game two--and finishing with ten men in the process---Debreceni VSC still advanced because of away goals (3-3). Jozsef Varga scored what proved to be the series-winning goal for the Hungarian club at 13 minutes. FC Levadia Tallin is next on the qualifying agenda for Dereceni.

At Belfast, Northern Ireland:

Yero Bello's double (9', 53') provided half the goalpower for Maccabi Haifa FC as the Israeli club pistolwhipped Glentoran FC 4-0 on the road in game two and finished their two-match annihilation on aggregate 10-0. Next up for the Greens, a two-match series in the third qualifying round against FK Aktobe.

At Dublin, Ireland:

Patrik Jezek scored the only goal of the match at 86 minutes as FC Red Bull Salzburg defeated Bohemian FC 1-0 on the road in game two and took the two-match set 2-1 on aggregate. The Bulls, in the third qualifying round, will take their two-match whack, next, at NK Dinamo Zagreb.

At Podgorica, Montenegro:

Dame Ndoye's double (10', 40') was only part of an offensive barrage that carried FC Copenhagen to a 6-0 road win in game two over FK Mogren, their second such triumph in this two-match set that the Lions completely controlled, 12-0 on aggregate. Norway's Stabaek IF is next for the Danish powers.

At Maribor, Slovenia:

NK Maribor, with goals provided by David Bunderla (9'), Marcos (19'), and Rene Mihelic (86'), defeated FC WIT Georgia 3-1 at home in game two, and took the two-match set on aggregate, 3-1. The Purples will next get their crack at FC Zurich.
