Playoffs For Promotion To League One Commence

Thursday marked the beginning of the playoffs from promotion from League Two to League One in England's Football League.

At Rochdale:

Gillingham held hosts Rochdale to a 0-0 deadlock in the opening match of a two-legged playoff semifinal for the right to go to the promotion playoff final.

At Shrewsbury:

Neil Ashton may have put his team's chances of promotion to League One in jeopardy after his own goal at 81 minutes lifted Bury to a 1-0 road win over Shrewsbury Town in the semifinal series opener.

The top three clubs in League Two this season---Brentford, Exeter City, and Wycombe Wanderers---won automatic promotion to League One.

The bottom two clubs, Luton Town and Chester City, were relegated from the Football League down to the Conference (Blue Square Premier).
