Shakhtar And Werder Bremen Reach UEFA Cup Final

The semifinal round in the UEFA Cup concluded Thursday with the second games of the respective two-match sets.

At Shakhtar, Ukraine:

Goals from Jadson (17') and Ilsinho (89') powered Shakhtar Donetsk to a 2-1 home win over Dynamo Kiev in game two of their semifinal set, enabling them to win the two-game set 3-2 on aggregate and reach the UEFA Cup final.

At Hamburg, Germany:

Diego (29'), Claudio Pizarro (66'), and Frank Baumann (83') provided the goals that powered Werder Bremen to a 3-2 road win in game two against Hamburg and advance to the UEFA Cup final thanks to their scoring more goals on the road (3-2) than their Bundesliga rivals, with the score deadlocked at 3-3 on aggregate.

Werder Bremen and Shaktar Donetsk will play in the UEFA Cup final on May 20 at Istanbul, Turkey.

Next season, the tournament will be renamed the UEFA Europa League.
