US Open Cup

The opening round proper of the US Open Cup commenced on Tuesday with ten games.

At Richmond, Virginia:

The Richmond Kickers (USL League One, which plays in the third level of American soccer) defeated visiting Virginia United (local qualifiers) 6-2.

At Montclair, New Jersey:

After a 4-4 draw through 120 minutes the New York Red Bulls Under-23 squad (USL League Two, formerly the Premier Development League; in the fourth level of American soccer) defeated visiting FC Motown (National Premier Soccer League, also a fourth-division league) 5-3 in the penalty-kick shootout.

At Baltimore:

After a 1-1 deadlock through 120 minutes, the West Chester Predators (NPSL; local qualifiers) knocked off FC Baltimore Christos (NPSL) 5-4 in the penalty-kick shootout.

At Auburndale, Florida:

In another marathon match, in which the score was 1-1 after 120 minutes, The Villages SC (USL League 2) knocked off the homestanding Lakeland Tropics (USL League 2) 8-7 in a marathon penalty-kick shootout.

At Statesboro, Georgia:

The South Georgia Tormenta (USL League 2) dominated the visiting Chattanooga Red Wolves (USL League 1) 3-0.

At Milwaukee:

Brandon Eaton (9') and Jiro Barriga Toyama (36') each scored once as Forward Madison (USL League 1) knocked off Milwaukee Bavarian (local qualifiers from the United States Adult Soccer Association, in the fifth level of American soccer) 2-0 on the road.

At Laredo, Texas:

The NPSL's Laredo Heat defeated the visiting Brazos Valley Cavalry (USL League 1) 1-0.

At Turlock, California:

El Farolito of the NPSL defeated local qualifiers Academica SC 2-1 on the road.

At Irvine, California:

Cal FC a USASA local qualifying club demolished visiting FC Millhouse Portland (NPSL) 5-1.

At Irvine, California:

Orange County of the NPSL blanked the visiting Golden State Force (USL League 2) 2-0.
