US Open Cup

The third round of the US Open Cup tournament concluded on Wednesday with ten games.

At Cary, North Carolina:

D.J. Taylor scored the only goal of the match in the 47th minute as North Carolina FC (USL Championship) took out the last remaining fifth-division club in the tournament, the visiting Florida Soccer Soldiers (Local Qualifiers, USASA) 1-0.

At Pittsburgh:

Kenardo Forbes scored the game's lone goal in the 85th minute as the Pittsburgh Riverhounds defeated the visiting Indy Eleven 1-0 in a battle of USL Championship clubs.

At Louisville, Kentucky:

In another contest pitting clubs from the second-division USL Championship, Sean Totsch converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute for the winning goal as Louisville City defeated the visiting Birmingham Legion 1-0.

At Fenton, Missouri:

Paris Gee (2'), Guy Abend (6'), and Russell Cicerone (72') each scored once as Saint Louis FC (USL Championship) knocked out visiting Forward Madison (the last remaining entrant from third-division USL League One) 3-1.

At Memphis, Tennessee:

Jochen Graf scored twice (21', 59') as Memphis 901 FC demolished visiting Hartford Athletic 4-0 in still another battle of USL Championship clubs.

At Murfreesboro, Tennessee:

After a 1-1 deadlock after regulation, followed by 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Zeiko Lewis, Leland Archer, and Ian Svantesson converted their spot kicks as the Charleston Battery knocked off Nashville SC 3-0 in the penalty-kick shootout on the road in still another matchup of USL Championship clubs.

At Del Valle, Texas:

Andre Lima scored twice (43', 62') as the Austin Bold doubled up visiting San Antonio 4-2 in still another battle of USL Championship clubs.

At Colorado Springs, Colorado:

In yet another contest involving two USL Championship clubs, Kevaughn Frater scored the winning goal in the 95th minute with his successful penalty kick as New Mexico United upended the home-standing Colorado Springs Switchbacks 2-1 in overtime.

At Sacramento, California:

Stefano Bonomo scored the only goal of the match in overtime (120'+3) as the Sacramento Republic defeated visiting Fresno FC 1-0 in yet another all-USL Championship contest.

At Las Vegas, Nevada:

Blake Frischknecht scored the winning goal in the 89th minute as Orange County FC (NPSL) became the tournament's last remaining entrant from outside America's top two soccer divisions as the fourth-division club knocked off the Las Vegas Nights (USL Championship) 5-3 on the road.



Here are the matchups (as drawn on Thursday) for the fourth round of the tournament in which all 21 US-based Major League Soccer clubs make their first appearances.

The games will take place on June 11 or 12 with the hosts listed first with date to be determined.
